The Biennale des Antiquaires, which has been held at the Grand Palais in Paris since 1962, is a prestigious event whose reputation extends far beyond the borders of France.
A different theme is chosen each year. This theme is intended to define the general atmosphere of the fair and to invite visitors and exhibitors into a spectacular and marvellous setting.
For the 2012 edition, Karl Lagerfeld chose to recreate a Paris of the 1900s.
Participation in the Biennale is a calling card for antique dealers. It allows them to build a good image and reputation, provided, of course, that they make a splash with visitors and other exhibitors.

GALLERY ARY JAN, Biennale des antiquaires 2012 and 2014
For its first appearance at the Biennale des Antiquaires, Gallery Ary Jan wanted to make a statement by utilising our interior architecture and design services.
As we specialise in the Belle Epoque and oriental painting, we decided to combine these two worlds to create a new, mixed world where East and West merge.
The oriental style was modernised through the colours and materials used: white lacquered metal arches, walls covered with aubergine-coloured fabric and a metal floor engraved with motifs from Moroccan zellige. The final decoration lives up to the challenge.
A fountain made especially for the event was operated with real goldfish for the duration of the show.
A contemporary riad was thus invited into the heart of the Biennale, between oriental stucco and stretched silk.
Each painting on display was emphasised by a white lacquered moucharabieh arch.
Oriental paintings such as De Dreux or Seel and Belle Époque works such as Helleu and Henri Martin are magnified in this harmonious universe between oriental refinement and western rigour.
GALERIE BOULAKIA 2014
